Netflix and the End of TV
Published in French as Netflix et la fin de la TV. English edition not yet announced.
“How streaming hollowed out Hollywood.”
January 2007: Reed Hastings launches Watch Now. March 2011: Ted Sarandos signs House of Cards without a pilot, 100 million dollars for two seasons. April 19, 2022: Netflix loses 200,000 subscribers and 54 billion dollars of market value in a single day.
Fifteen years on, the film industry has been gutted. Disney+, Apple TV+, Amazon, Warner, Paramount+: everyone is running to catch up. Nobody knows anymore who owns the story, who pays the talent, where the movie theater ends. Streaming won, without building anything to replace what it killed.
